Role purpose
General information
The Paramedic working within a Minor Injuries Unit is responsible for assessing, treating, advising and discharging patients who present with minor injuries and urgent care needs. The role supports safe, effective and timely patient care by using advanced clinical assessment skills, evidence-based practice and appropriate referral pathways.
Key responsibilities
Undertake autonomous clinical assessment of patients presenting with minor injuries, including adults and children where competent.
Identify, assess and manage a range of minor injury presentations such as wounds, sprains, strains, minor burns, suspected fractures and soft tissue injuries.
Provide appropriate treatment, including wound care, dressings, splinting, plastering, suturing or steri-strips where trained and competent.
Request, review and interpret X-rays within local protocols and scope of practice.
Specific MIU requirement information
Able to see patients of all ages, including paediatrics
Current IRMER certificate attached, less than 3 years old
Evidence of X-ray interpretation
Minor injury Level 6 / 7 qualification attached
Experienced in suturing
Experienced in plastering
Must have comparable experience
